11 weeks of teaching with 3 lectures per week.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to

  • Apply the gauge principle both in the abelian and the non-abelian case.
  • Apply the Goldstone theorem.
  • Work out the consequences of the Higgs mechanism.
  • Identify the basic interaction vertices between the fields in the standard model Lagrangian.

  • Abelian and non-abelian gauge symmetry.
  • Goldstone theorem.
  • Higgs mechanism, mass generation.
  • The complete standard model Lagrangian.
