The module covers the following topics:
- 
Basic concepts of Lie groups and Lie algebras, the exponential map;
-  Geometric aspects of Lie groups; 
-  Algebraic structure of Lie algebras; 
-  Weights, roots, Dynkin diagrams and the classification; 
-  Representations of Lie groups and Lie algebras; 
-  Classical Lie groups and their algebras; 
-  Applications in physics.

- Assessment Detail
- 
This module will be examined in a 2 hour examination at the annual session. Continuous assessment will contribute 15% to the final grade for the module at the annual examination session. Re-assessments if required will consist of 100% exam.
