# Mathematics in Two-Subject Moderatorship 2015-16

### Senior Sophister Year (pattern A)

In the Senior Sophister year, students who continue with Mathematics (rather than majoring in their other subject) must either continue with both subjects [an option available in a limited number of combinations] or major in Mathematics (which is pattern B). This page relates to pattern A.

## Senior Sophister (Mathematics pattern A) Regulations

Pattern A is available for the combinations of Mathematics with Economics, Geography and Philosophy only. This page applies specifically to the combinations Mathematics with Economics only.

- Students take modules to the value of 60 credits in total, (30 in each term, divided equally between Mathematics and Economics credits).
- The overall result and classification of Moderatorship awarded depends only on the Senior Sophister year.
- Students must register for Mathematics modules to the value of exactly 30 credits (with the Administrative office of the School of Mathematics) and check that their modules are correctly recorded at the student portal by the deadline (date to be advised but likely to be in January).
- TSM are required to choose at least half of their Senior Sophister Mathematics credits at the advanced level.
- Module EC4090 (Quantitative Methods) is available to be taken as part of the Mathematics component, according to the special arrangments for the combination of Mathematics with Economics in the Two-Supject Moderatorship (and counts at the advanced level).
- Students will be assessed on their registered modules
(
**only**) according to the rules below. - Papers are set on a majority of modules at the annual examination (held in April/May). The mark for these modules may also incorporate credit for assessed work throughout the academic year as prescribed by the lecturers concerned. (For further information on assessment, consult the individual module descriptions.)
- Results for examinations are published according to the following grades: I = 70 to 100, II.1 = 60 to 69, II.2 = 50 to 59, III = 40 to 49, F.1 = 30 to 39, F.2 = 0 to 29.
- Each module is marked in the range from 0 to 100%.
- In order to pass their SS year in TSM (and qualify for a
Moderatorship),
pattern A students must attain an average
mark (credit weighted average)
of at least 40% over the (30 credits of) mathematics modules and also
obtain an average of 40% in their other subject.
*In addition*students must pass modules totalling at least 20 credits in each subject (Mathematics and the other subject) and obtain at least 30% in all modules. - There are no supplemental or special examinations for Senior Sophister students.
