On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Explain the elementary ideas underlying probability models;
Distinguish between discrete and continuous random variables;
Apply a number of simple probability models to practical problems in a range of disciplines;
Demonstrate an understanding of the elementary properties of random variable (exception, variance and covariance)

Discrete probability models, including binomial, hypergeometric, geometric, Poisson;
Continuous distributions including Normal, uniform and exponential;
Expectations and variances of random variables;
Combining random variables;
Sampling distributions

Assessment Detail
This module will be examined jointly with ST1252
in a 3-hour examination in Trinity term,
except that those taking just one of the
two modules will have a 2 hour examination. The supplemental exam will consist of 100% exam.
