Łukasiewicz annual lecture 2024
The second annual Łukasiewicz lecture, "Knots, paths and strings", will be given by Prof. Piotr Sułkowski of University of Warsaw on Thursday April 11th at 6pm in the Thomas Davis lecture theatre in the Arts Building, TCD. The talk is organised by the school of mathematics, TCD and the Polish Embassy in honour of mathematical logician Jan Łukasiewicz.
This public talk will provide an accessible introduction to some modern research areas in which knots (such as those that can be tied on a piece of a rope) play a crucial role. The talk will explain how such knots can be characterized and classified in mathematical terms, and reveal how their description gets related by sophisticated methods of string theory to some ideas developed by Jan Łukasiewicz.
As this is a public talk we ask that people reserve seats via eventbrite.
