William Rowan Hamilton
Professor Nigel Hitchin (Oxford University) will discuss the life of William Rowan Hamilton and the lasting impact of his mathematical discoveries. This talk is part of the celebrations of the 220th anniversary Hamilton and 20th anniversary of the Hamilton Mathematics Institute TCD.

Title: William Rowan Hamilton
Abstract: The talk will give a brief account of Hamilton's life and the present day mathematical consequences of some of his discoveries. The mathematics will be three topics: geometric optics, quartic surfaces and quaternions, each emanating from a key point in Hamilton’s life.
