Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Orienteering?
A: Orienteering is a sport in which you have a map and compass and you must visit the points on your map in the specified order. The person who completes the course in the fastest time is the winner! Many people also orienteer simply as a way to get out at the weekends.

Q: Who does orienteering?
A: Everyone! At a typical orienteering event you will see all kinds of people, from every walk of life, all with a similar interest! There are different courses set out to tailor for each set of peoples needs.

Q: Where are events held?
A: Everywhere! You will find events being held in places such as the Trinity campus to the Wicklow mountains.

Q: What equipment will I need?
A: Clothes that are suitable for a walk in the woods (ie tracksuit trousers, jeans are not advised). If it's wet, bring a raincoat.
A change of clothes for afterwards, something to eat is good too!
If you have a compass and know how to use it, bring it, however it is not essential.
