DIY Spectroscopy using AIA diffraction patterns
I am using artifacts observed in EUV images to perform imaging spectroscopy with AIA. This uniqe approach to EUV spectroscopy means that we can obtain high cadence (12 second), high spatial resolution (1.2") spectra at up to 0.5 Å.
Tracking CMEs for comparison to type II and type II radio bursts
Using EUV images close to the solar disk and coronagraph data out to 1 A.U., I am tracking the propagation of coronal mass ejections to compare their locations and kinematics to their corresponding radio bursts (in collaboration with H. Bain and J. C. Martinez-Oliveros).
EUV Imager calibration
As part of my graduate work, I analysed the sensitivity of the EUV imaging telescope - SWAP on board the ESA mission, Proba-2 to plasmas of varying temperatures. This involved detailed analysis of the EUV spectrum in the SWAP passband using the atomic data package CHIANTI.
CME initiation mechanisms
Observing the timing and location of electron acceleration (traced by hard X-ray sources), the sequence of events leading to a CME can be analyzed. We compared observations from STEREO/EUVI to occulted hard X-ray sources sources observed with RHESSI that indicate the Tether Cutting mechanism was the most likely trigger for an event occurring on Dec 31 2007.
Solar flare hydrodynamics
Using the EBTEL hydrodynamic model, I conducted an investigation into the cooling mechanisms of a solar flare.
