About me
Currently I am a postdoctoral researcher with an expertise in Solar Physics, in particular extreme ultraviolet and X-ray spectroscopy of solar flares. Right now I am working at the Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley under the guidance of Dr. Säm Krucker and Bob Lin. I am involved with the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI), a NASA small explorer mission dedicated to observations of solar flare X-rays and γ-rays. Please see my Research page for a more detailed description of my past and current work.
I am originally from Ireland, Dublin and Kerry specifically. I did my undergraduate and PhD work at Trinity College Dublin . During my time as a graduate student, I worked under the supervision of Dr. Peter Gallagher in the TCD Astrophysics group, completeing my thesis entitled EUV and X-ray spectroscopy of the active Sun in a little over three years.
In my spare time I am activly involved with the Irish Pipers of San Francisco. I've been playing the highland bagpipes since I was 11 years old and am currently a member of the Grade 3 band and instructor for the Grade 5 band. Outside of bagpiping, I have recently started playing softball which I LOVE!! The quintessential American experience in a nutshell!
