Day 7 18/3/2012 Click here. Just a small update about what I did on Friday that I didn't have time to write up. If you've been reading the last post, you will know that I discovered some mould growing in the middle. I've gotten rid of it all but obviously, I want to do all I can to prevent more growing. I posted my problem online and some guy on the internet told me to mix "a quarter teaspoon of baking soda with a quart of water" and spray it on the plant. I was a bit skeptical at first but upon checking Wikipedia that it "can be an effective way of controlling fungus growth", I was convinced. Acknowleding these wise words, I cycled to the nearest Tesco to get a bag of baking soda, or for you scientists, sodium bicarbonate for €1.09. I wasn't exactly sure how much a quart was so I got a cup of water and dumped in around a tablespoon of baking soda. If I'm going to do this, I might as well go all out. Unfortunately, I also did not have a spray bottle so I resorted to dipping my hand in the mixture and flicking at the plant to cover it with droplets of the mixture. And to be extra safe, I poured more baking soda into the middle of the plant and continued with the hand flicking which made me feel fabulous. Satisfied that the plant was completely drenched, I was ready to go out to celebrate pre-Paddy's Day. I got back at around 3 or 4 am. By then, all the water had dried up and what was left was a thin layer of baking soda on the leaves. I really don't know if what I'm doing is doing more harm than good anymore. I guess it's been fun so far... I'll have the next update on Tuesday. |
