JF course for Scientists (second semester)
Discrete Mathematics part
Module MA1S12, lecturer: Richard M. Timoney
Introduction
In Hilary term 2013, there will be another lecturer (Prof. Sergey Mozgovoy) sharing the lecturing on module MA1S12.
These web pages deal with one half of module MA1S12, the part where I will be the lecturer.
In general the mathematics modules aim to deal with topics in Mathematics of interest to future scientists. A lot of the module is designed to provide the background for more advanced topics that are directly relevant to highly mathematical scientific theories, but some of the topics will be used directly in your science subjects.
The present way of organsing the modules MA1S11/MA1S12 has been in place a couple of years now, and in 2013-14 there will only be relatively small changes compared to recent eears.
The material treated by Prof. Sergey Mozgovoy can be described as `Calculus' while my lectures will start with linear algebra, then do some applications in differntial equations and finally consider probability.
See the Syllabus for more specific information and also the Guide to textbooks if you would like to read more on the topics covered.
There is information online about the second year course (which you may wish to take).
