Examination results: In the Leaving Certificate, 2001, I received an A1 at higher level in English, Irish, Mathematics, French, History and Physics. I received an A2 at higher level in Geography.
In 2001 I entered Trinity College, University of Dublin as an undergraduate studying Theoretical Physics. My examination results so far have been as follows:
In 2001 I received the Patrick Pearse Scholarship for results obtained in the Leaving Certificate of the same year.
In 2003 I was elected a Foundation Scholar of Trinity College, Dublin, I received the Toronto Prize for coming first in the college in the scholarship examination of that year.
In summer 2003 (May - August) I worked as a research assistant in Prof. Igor Shvets' lab in SFI, Trinity College. I designed parts for a pumping device (using Autocad) and wrote C code to automate a drill. I also had responsibility for the sourcing of materials and services for the research group.
During this summer (June - September 2004) I worked in Met Eireann, the Irish Meteorological service, in Glasnevin, Dublin 9. I worked on a Classical Mechanics problem and on an interpolation problem, the latter involved the interpolation of data (fields) defined on a regional climate model, to a limited area model.
In 2001 I captained my school's French-debating team to a victory in the final of an all-Ireland debating contest, organized by the Alliance Francaise, the French Embassy's cultural service.
This year I succeeded in raising € 3,000 in order to go to Madagascar with the charity Habitat for Humanity in order to build houses for those without adequate housing.
My non-academic interests are long-distance cycling and running. I am a member of DUHAC, the athletics club of Trinity College Dublin. I also enjoy reading, in particular 19th Century English Literature.
