Content
The course will cover the following topics, roughly in order:
- Limits, Sequences and Series in the Complex Plane
- Complex Integration
- Holomorphic Functions
- The Calculus of Residues
If we have time, which we should, we will then spend a week or two on Elliptic Functions. You are assumed already to know
- Real Analysis
- Definition and Algebraic Properties of Complex Numbers
so these topics will not be reviewed in this class.
Text
There is no official textbook for the course. There are many good book on Complex Analysis, and you will probably find it useful to buy or borrow one that appeals to you. There are also notes from when Dr. Wilkins taught the course. You will probably find these helpful, even though I won't be following them exactly.
Exams
There will be single exam during the usual annual exam period, worth 80% of your course mark. We are not allowed to announce exam dates and locations on course web pages, but there will be a link here to the official schedule once that is available. A sample paper is available in PDF or PostScript format. Solutions are also available in PDF or PostScript format.
Scholarship Exam
There is half a scholarship paper, i.e. four questions on one paper, based on the course. See the sample paper for an indication of the nature of the questions. This is also available in PostScript. Brief solutions are also available in PDF or PostScript format. The actual scholarship paper is also available in PDF or PostScript format.Assignments
Assignments will count for 20% of your course mark. They will be posted here at roughly 2 week intervals. They will not be distributed in class. Solutions will be posted here once the assignment has been corrected.
