.: Welcome to my site

I'm a Solar Astrophysics PhD researcher in Trinity College Dublin, working with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the Naval Research Lab in Washington DC.
Conference presentations include: NASA, NRL, Caltech, the 1st Hinode Science Meeting, the SMESE Workshop, the 2007 & 2008 RAS National Astronomy Meetings and the 2007 & 2008 STEREO Science Working Groups, and the Solar Image Processing Workshop SIPWorkIV.
I hold a B.A.(Mod.) in Theoretical Physics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics from Trinity College Dublin, and hold a certificate in Computer Graphic Designer from Senior College DunLaoghaire.

.: Interests

I work on multiscale image processing in the study of coronal mass ejections CMEs. One method I employ is wavelets which are mathematical functions that cut up data into different frequency components and then study each component with a resolution matched to its scale. I use data from the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory STEREO in my efforts to analyse the 3D propagation of CMEs in the inner heliosphere.

.: Solar Astrophysics

Many astrophysicists are currently studying the Sun with the aim of better understanding its complex magnetic field structure and resulting violent behaviour. The Sun has a profound effect on space weather in the heliosphere and this weather can have negative impacts upon the Earth, most notably on satellite systems, GPRS, telecommunication networks and radiation levels.
