I am working on an Irish Research Council of Science Engineering and Technology research Ph.D in the area of Mathematical Neuroscience.

Neurons transmit information by means of sets of electrical impulses known as spike trains. Hence spike trains are fundamental to the propagation of information throughout the brain. My work focuses on developing a novel mathematical approach to examine these spike trains. Some of my work can be found here and here.

Methods used include various forms of data mining such as clustering and low-dimensional embedding methods, as well as information theory and differential geometry. All theoretical work is applied computationally to a sample dataset from the auditory forebrain of a zebra finch. Programming is primarily in C++, but every so often tends to venture towards Matlab and Python.
