Day (Someone tell me how many days have elapsed from 3/1/2014-20/9/2014) ![]() Click here. I got back to Cambridge last Saturday and the first thing I did as soon as I got home was go see how my pineapple plant was doing. And it was doing incredibly well. It is huge. My goals are now getting closer and closer and that also means I need to start thinking ahead to welcome this pineapple to the world. Let me give you my thoughts. Hopefully, the pictures I've shown you give an accurate picture of its current size. With winter coming close, the pineapple won't grow much more as the days get darker. This is probably the biggest it will get this year, maybe a little bigger if the next few weeks are good. The question now is will a fruit grow in 2015? I've considered this carefully and there are 2 options: 1) When spring comes, I artificially force it to fruit. My years of research tells me that I can do this by sealing the plant in a plastic bag with apples which will release ethylene gas. I should be guaranteed a pineapple by the end of summer and we can all celebrate and have a massive pineapple eating party (I'm calling the party Pine 2015). The only downside to this is that if the plant isn't mature enough, I'll only get a small fruit. 2) I let nature run its course. If the plant isn't ready yet next year, then we will have to wait for 2016 until it naturally fruits. Also the party will be called Pine 2016 instead. I am still unsure of which option to pick. I am leaning towards option 1) so far since I think the plant might be big enough by next spring but I will play it by ear. Any feedback from my supporters would also be great. Finally, if you are not already excited, I will reveal another project that I have been thinking about recently in the next few days. Bye for now! |
