To: lettersed@irish-times.ie Madam, John Collins' article on the use of unsecured wireless networks by financial firms makes interesting reading. We conducted a similar survey in 2002 covering much of Dublin by car, cycle and foot. At the time this generated a lot of interest in the security community as we found that almost 40% of people were taking basic security precautions. We have conducted a number of small follow-up studies, and the indications are that many home network users are now secured by default. It is unfortunate to hear that the financial sector has not taken heed of earlier reports. Undoubtedly Deloitte can offer their services to your readers who may have missed our 2002 report.
