Jamie Donnelly : Theoretical Physics

Hello. My name is Jamie Donnelly and I am a student of theoretical physics at Trinity College. On this page you can find stuff relating to my interests and coursework. If you wish to contact me, send me an email at the address at the bottom of the page (obviously replace the "GNAT" with an @ sign).

Papers

Black Holes and Revelations - A Scientific Paper - A casual introduction to black holes I wrote for the Bram Stoker Club when I was in second year. I decided to write it in response to the curiosity friends I have from the arts end of the college displayed about the more esoteric elements of my coursework. It's long, but can be understood by anyone with a passing familiarity with basic physics.

The End of the World: The Future of the Universe, Increasing Entropy and Heat Death - a paper on the end of the world (how it won't end this winter and how it will probably end in the distant future), how the universe will change irreversibly as its entropy increases and how the universe will ultimately "end". I will also explore what this means for the continuity of life, especially given the possibility of alternative quantum universes. Once again you need nothing more than a passing familiarity with basic physics.

Phil Blog

One of my spare time pursuits is debating. You get to argue passionately about topics on a side you've been arbitrarily assigned fifteen minutes before the debate begins! Of course, that's not all, because Trinity's two debating societies (The Hist and the Phil) do other things on the side, such as guest speakers, workshops and grudge football matches once a year! When I was in second year, I wrote the Phil's blog (I picked it up in first year, but didn't really decide to turn it into a weekly thing until the summer). The Compiled PDF file can be accessed below. To download it, click on "file" and go to the bottom of the menu
