1S12 Calculus with applications for Scientists (second semester)
Lecturer: Derek Kitson
Course outline:
 Methods of integration (including integration by parts, trigonometric substitutions and numerical integration)
 Differential equations (including separable and linear first order differential equations)
 Infinite series (including convergence tests and Taylor series)
 Geometry (including parametric curves, polar coordinates)
 Partial differentiation (introduction)
There are two parts to 1S12, the other part is Discrete Mathematics with Dr. Colm Ó Dúnlaing.

Notice for students taking the supplemental exam:
There will be revision sessions on Wednesday 15th August in the
Seminar Room (2.6) in the School of Mathematics.
The Calculus session will run from 11am1pm and the Discrete Mathematics session from
2pm4pm.
Reading Week:
During Reading Week there will be two revision sessions on material
we have covered so far.

Recommended reading:

Calculus, Late Transcendentals. 9th edition by H. Anton, I. Bivens, S. Davis.
We will cover most of Chapters 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and sections 13.1, 13.3.
