Hello to all our first year friends, I would like to take this opportuinity to welcome you all to the maths dept. Now that the soft fuzzy stuff is out of the way here are the facts of maths.
you think that your good? your not
you got an A1 in maths? so what
you were asked to take part in the maths olympiad? big deal so was 10% of your class
you got the highest leaving results this year? go to Galway to study Business you won't make it here
you want to be rich when you finish? do bess
you think you have lots of friends in your class? at the end of the year at least one of you will have failed and one will have dropped out.
you're thinking about going for schols? You should have taken a year out to study more maths after the leaving cert.
you have a girlfriend in your class? that's a messy break-up.
you like maths? it doesn't like you.
you think maths is fun, have fun trying to make friends in your class.
you joined the mathsoc? thanks for your money we'll see you next october.
you got 600 points in the leaving cert? study medicine, this is not a course you can over study your way out of.
