Particle Physics Master Class for Secondary School Students
On Wednesday, 21st March, 2018 the TCD School of Mathematics will join the International Masterclasses in particle physics. This gives secondary school students the opportunity to discover the world of quarks and leptons for themselves, by performing measurements on real data from CERN, to meet active particle physics researchers, and to link up with like-minded students from other countries.
THE MAXIMAL CAPACITY FOR THE EVENT HAS BEEN REACHED. IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND THE EVENT AND HAVEN'T REGISTERED SO FAR, PLEASE FILL IN THE FORM AND WE WILL LET YOU KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY ADDITIONAL PLACES DUE TO LAST MOMENT CANCELATIONS.
The one-day event starts with a couple of introductory talks about our current understanding of particle physics, and the experimental facilities to study it. After lunch (sandwiches will be provided), the students will analyse recent data from the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Afterwards they are invited to a video conference where they will discuss and compare their results with student groups from around the world and with moderators at CERN in Geneva.
DUE TO A LIMITED NUMBER OF PLACES, WE SHALL LET YOU KNOW IF YOU WERE SELECTED TO ATTEND THE EVENT.**
