Trinity College Dublin August 26th - 28th
The 2026 annual meeting of the Irish Mathematical Society (Cumann Matamaitice na hÉireann) will be hosted by the School of Mathematics at Trinity College Dublin.
This is the 39th annual IMS meeting; a list of past meetings is available on the IMS website. In 2026 the IMS will reach the 50th anniversary of its founding and to mark this milestone a public talk will be organised in conjunction with the annual meeting.
As part of the meeting there will be a public talk by Hugo Parlier on Wednesday, August 26th at 5:30pm . The talk will take place in the Academy House of the Royal Irish
Academy, 19 Dawson Street. The event is currently fully booked but it is possible to join the wait list for a (free) ticket via the link here.

How do shapes relate to one another? Where the artist intuitively grasps the balance between forms, mathematicians map out these relationships by incorporating notions of distance and transformation into what they call moduli spaces—vast structured landscapes of all possible geometric shapes.
Together with Bruno Teheux, in order to sample collective creativity, we imagined the project Life Lines and collected thousands of drawings from around the world. The game Quadratis, designed with Paul Turner, allows players to explore and visualize moduli spaces.
Both projects will be at the heart of a resolutely interactive talk.
On the afternoon of Thursday, August 27th there will be a poster session. All interested participants are encouraged to contribute and topics can include new research, general-interest mathematics, or the history and work of the IMS. The event will include a competition for early career participants, generously sponsored by the Susquehanna Intl. Group Ltd. MSc and PhD students as well as early stage postdocs (up to one year after graduation) are eligible. Please submit your poster title to IMS2026@tcd.ie by August 12th; please also indicate whether you are eligible for the competition and whether you wish to be part of it.
The founding of the IMS can be to dated to a meeting in House 39 of TCD on April 14th 1976 where the original constitution was accepted. A recounting of the origins of the IMS by T.T.
