I am a theoretical particle physicist. I work on Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) - the theory of the strong nuclear force using numerical simulations to make predictions of particle properties. In the last decade experimental discoveries have challenged our understanding of how constituent particles are
configured in short-lived composites and my research is focused on explaining this puzzle and
explaining the new strong exotic matter. A second avenue of investigation is QCD at finite temperature - to investigate the properties of the quark-gluon plasma: conditions that existed in the earliest moments of the universe. I am a founding member of two international collaborations and together we are
exploiting some of the world's most powerful supercomputers to answer fundamental questions about the
matter in our universe.
