Ramblings of a lost cause

Greetings!

A History Lesson

I was born in Gorey, Co. Wexford, which makes me a Yellow Belly. I grew up in Arklow, Co. Wicklow, which, as far as I know, has the only pyramid in Ireland.

In 1992 I moved to Dublin, where I (eventually) graduated from Trinity College with a BA(Mod) in Natural Science.

I worked as webmaster for the School of Mathematics for a year while studying.

My first experience of the "real-world" was a year spent in Vorarlberg, Oesterreich where I worked as a technical writer for OMICRON electronics.

When I returned to Ireland, I took a job with ISOCOR BV (now Critical Path), again as a technical writer. While working for their Professional Services Department I developed a couple of internal web applications.

In March 1999 I moved to WBT Systems, where I worked as a Technical Writer and Webmaster until March 2001, when I was bitten by the downsizing bug.

After that, I began working as a freelance technical writer and completed a Masters in Science Communication. My dissertation was on proposals for science centres in Ireland (PDF, 239K).

I also co-authored ECDL Advanced Spreadsheets.

Other Stuff

My interests, are many and varied, but include Dave (who I love for his mind).
