The Bologna International tournament was held between 2nd/3rd October, 2004 in Bologna, Italy, and I stayed in a gymnasium.
I played this tournament with Flying Bisch' and we finished 11th. |
If you're going to be in Italy for a tournamnet, why not stay and play a second one while you're at it!
I changed my flight to stay in Italy for an extra week so that I could play in Bologna but had no idea who I would play with as Buddha had said just to turn up and see what happened. It turned out I had a few options which was great to hear.
First off I met a bunch of the Discetrics guys from Girona in the train station and Jaime said there would be a space ont heir team if I wanted. After that, Gili said he was picking up with Freespeed and they might be looking for another player. In the end I played with Flying Bisch' as Cotzi said they weren't going to have many players and in a way I felt a sense of loyalty to them after they had been so generous to me the previous weekend.
We lost out to Freespeed and Peyota Power on Saturday afternoon which put us in to the bottom half for Sundays knock out stages, were we unfortunately drew by far the strongest team in the half in Nice Try Santa Cruz. The game turned out to be an excellent clash with people running real hard and throwing themselves after discs that looked dead in order to give their team a better chance of winning. Unfortunately for us, Nice Try came through on top by 1 or 2 points and went on to finish 9th for the weekend.
We also won out last game and so finished 11th after some heated 'discussions' against UFO (I think) from the Netherlands.
While there was a party on Friday on Saturday night, that wasn't really what the tourni was about. It was more of a chance for teams to play one final bit of tough team ultimate before the cold and wet winter kicked in. It was nice to have the mix on back to back weekends and I think it has just made me all the more enthusiastic to get involved with a team and actually be part of a squad that will be looking to compete in tournaments and not just simply go to make up the numbers and party.
Until I can get myself somewhere were things are already in place and I can try to become a part it, I may as well look to make the most of being in Dublin and try to raise the standard and awareness there.
ps. Congrats to the Bischi' on winning one or two games this weekend. Looks like the hard work on the beahc last weekend paid off.
