The training was held on June 3rd, 2004 in Toronto, Canada, and I stayed with friends.
This was a training session with Joystick & Goat. |
Training session with two of Toronto's open teams.
Heather had organised for me to join in this training session while I was in Toronto and I'm really glad she did. It was nice seeing how other teams run their sessions and what kind of things they do.
They did a good bunch of plyo's to get started and then ran the three-man throwing drill. After that they took a bit of time to run through a few of their offensive plays from a horizontal stack and then went into a scrimmage. Similar to home, the scrimmage went for about 45 minutes before someone suggested keeping score.
The standard of play was decent enough and I needed to work in order to hold my own. Once I got settled in to a rhythm, however, and saw where I could fit in to their offensive set, I started to do pretty good. I got a lot of looks at the disc and a few D's. Granted, I did get beaten a few times but I'd like to claim that was due to some exceptionally acurate throwing. If the throws had been even a tiny bit off, then I had a good D on them.
My thanks to both teams for letting me join in their session and I wish them bothe the best of luck to the summer season. Goat are again looking to make bid to UPA nationals and at least one of their guys is going to be playing for Canada this summer at WUGC in Finland. With luck I will get to play along side or against some of you another time soon.
