The Paganello tournament was held between 8th/12th April, 2004 in Rimini, Italy, and I stayed in a hotel.
I played this tournament with Gert Johnny's Band and we finished 14th. |
A wonderful Paganello with a great team of new friends from Florence!
Do I love the beach or what? It is the best for playing ultimate. Good fun, nice people, hard work and soft landings. It doesn't get much better.
Gert Johnny's Band are a co-ed team from Florence that was captained by my friend Max. He invited me along and I'm really glad I took him up on it. I'd say it was my most enjoyable Pago and makes me hungry for next year.
In keeping with what is now becoming a trend, this was another inexperienced team but everybody played so well, right from the start. They all seemed to play within their limitations. They didn't try for a throw they couldn't do and they worked real hard on both offence and defense. It was really nice to be around that kind of attitude.
Me, I got to look good! I'm joking. Yes I was a little bit more experienced than some of the people on the team but it was everybodies hard work and commitment to each other that got us such a good finish. It was also really nice to be playing co-ed again. It's been a little while since I played it properly and this was a great reminder of how much fun (but still competative) a co-ed tourni can be.
As for off the pitch, wow. I was lucky to see the great SeXXXpensive playing their games and partying hard. I doubt anybody who saw it will forget the super heros from Saturday night. It was great fun seeing all my friends from around Europe, especially as that was the main reason I went in the first place.
I didn't know when I was going to get the chance to see everybody again as I am going to America for the summer, so, as Fatima put it, I decided to go to the family re-union. And what a reunion it was. It seemed like almost everybody was there (with, unfortunately, a few exceptions). As a plus to seeing all the people that I already knew, I got the chance to meet a bunch of new people. Some of whom I had seen around, or even played against, but had never got the chance to meet them. It was nice to finally do that and put names to faces.
A few years back I said that Pago '01 was probably going to be the only time I played it, now I can't wait for next year and can only hope I get as nice a team again.
