Maths Service Machines

The primary user service in the Maths department is provided by a number of FreeBSD, and Linux workstations of various vintages. Current setup is as follows. All machines are in the maths.tcd.ie domain.

aturing: Linux 64 bit Debian 6 (Squeeze) virtual machine (on xen server xenhostb, 3 cores 20G RAM)
graves: Linux 64 bit Debian 6 (Squeeze) virtual machine (on xen server xenhost0, 4 cores 8G RAM). [Was planned to take over web server functions of salmon.]
gstokes: Linux 64 bit Debian 6 (Squeeze) virtual machine (on xen server xenhosta, 3 cores 20G RAM)
hamilton: Linux 64 bit Debian 6 (Squeeze) virtual machine (on xen server xenhost0, 24 cores 70G RAM)
jbell; runs /FreeBSD cvsup and fileserver; backup spamassassin host: FreeBSD 8.3 64 bit virtual machine (on xen server xenhost0, 4 cores, 20G RAM)
synge: news server, file server, ftp server; FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE (19.12 - Dell rack)
- Rack Mountable Dell 2850:
  - Dual 3GHz Xeons (with hyperthreading and EM64T).
  - Dual LSILogic 1030 Ultra4 Adapter.
  - Dual Intel 82547EI Gigabit Ethernet (00:11:43:31:9d:7c on em0)
  - ATI based video card.
- 12GB RAM.
- Peripherals:
  - 1 * 3000GB SCSI-3 disk,
  - 1 * 70GB FUJITSU MAS3735NC 5B08 SCSI-3 disks,

walton: runs imap/pop3 services; fileserver for /src ; FreeBSD 8.3-STABLE, 64 bit, 12G RAM (19.12 - gray rack)
- Rack Mountable Dell 2850:
  - Dual 3GHz Xeons (with hyperthreading and EM64T).
  - Dual LSILogic 1030 Ultra4 Adapter.
  - Dual Intel 82547EI Gigabit Ethernet
  - ATI based video card.
- 12GB RAM.
- Peripherals:
  - 1 * 300GB SCSI disk
  - 1 * 70GB FUJITSU MAS3735NC 5B08 SCSI-3 disks,
  - IDE CD-ROM drive,

These machines are doing important work, but you can't login to them directly as an ordinary user.
lanczos: internet gateway, primary NTP server, web cache and proxy; FreeBSD 8.3-STABLE, 64 bit, 12G RAM (19.12 - gray rack)

  - Dual LSILogic 1030 Ultra4 Adapter.

xenhostb: Linux 64 bit Debian 6 (Squeeze) xen Dom0 server (hardware is PE 2950, 32G RAM, 10G Ethernet connection, RAID [hosting aturing, sa1]
xenhost0: Linux 64 bit 3.2.1 kernel, Debian 6 (Squeeze) xen Dom0 server (hardware is PE R815, 256G RAM, 10G Ethernet connection, RAID [hosting hamilton, graves, jbell, maccull2]
boyle: Linux 64 bit 2.6.26-1-amd64 #1 SMP Main NFS file server (hardware is PE 2950, 8G RAM, 10G Ethernet connection, RAID
sa1: FreeBSD 8.3 64 bit virtual machine (on xen server xenhostb, 4 cores, 3G memory). Main spamassassin host.
nfsxtermserver: FreeBSD 8.2 64 bit virtual machine (on xen server xenhosta, 2 cores, 3G memory). Boots diskless machines and providses NFS disk service for their operating system disks.
maccull2: mmdf mail delivery; runs FreeBSD 8.3 64 bit virtual machine (on xen server xenhost0, 4 cores, 4G RAM)
Note: the rest of the machines listed here are in need of being upgraded.
salmon: web server, fileserver, primary mail relay, nameserver ; FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE (19.12 - gray rack)
