Vertigo, $2.50
Short Review: Very, very good.
This is the actual Wake itself, a meeting of people who have come to mourn Dream. Neil Gaiman's talent for conversation can also be seen in Sandman Midnight Theatre, and it really shines here. Thessaly gets a word in her defense, and Matthew, as lynch-pin of the narrative, has an important bit. There's also a few scenes involving proper DC characters that caused me to fall over for a bit. Jed, Lyta, Rose, Titania, Nuala, Daniel, Lucien and many other things, including an answer to all those damn Cluracan questions, make up the rest of this wonderful issue. One more of these, and Zulli's renditions are going to be definitive.
