The Sandman 68

Story by NeilGaiman
Art by Marc Hempel& Richard Case

Lately, it's been hard to escape the conclusion that Neil Gaiman is playing with his readers. Several issues of what looked like flailing around for an ending, then last month a purpose-filled and crucial issue, and now this: 24 pages of going nowhere. Nil character development, sod all plot, just a lot of foreshadowing and dialogue. Very good dialogue it is too, as groovy as you'd expect, but it all goes nowhere. And Marc Hempel's near definitive take on the characters is diluted by pages drawn by yet another fill-in artist.

If you were considering picking up Sandman with this issue, go back to The Doll's House TPB. If you're a regular reader, there's nothing I could, or would wish to, do to sway you. One issue left, and I hope to Berger Neil's written a plot by then.
