Moonshadow 3 (of 12)

Story by J.M.DeMatteis
Art by Jon J Muth

Another chapter in the growth and adventures of the space wanderer Moonshadow. If there's one complaint to be made about this book, it's the 'theme of the issue' problem, where the protagonist goes through exactly one facet of life every issue, and then progresses through towards the great adventure to come. It fits DeMatties' theme of spiritual enlightenment, though hardship, but makes for an extremely artificial story. The theme this issue is madness, and we see Moonshadow, after his mothers funeral in the last issue, spend time in the local madhouse, be rescued by his companion/friend/adversary Ira, and end up facing the shade of his mad great-aunt Ettie. A beautifully written and wonderfully illustrated story, this is one to keep.
