This is an incredible book. First, and most obvious, the art, painted by Jon J Muth, is absolutely gorgeous. There isn't a sigle panel that isn't worth a thousand words, and Muth proudly does the text justice, as it veers from the horrible, to the cosmic, to the simply comical. And it is this quality of the text that enthralls, as well. In this story of a race of whimsically powerful balls of glowing light, and a child born from the coupling of one of them and an earth woman, each panel, each word, seems to flow naturally, not as a dramatic plot twist, or a sudden burst of comedy, but just as what should happen next. It is a joy to behold, particularly the strong sense of narrative provided by the story-frame of an old man's memories. Go buy this book. Now.
