Mobfire 1 (of 6)

Story by GaryUshaw

Vertigo

Some people might reasonably suggest that there's something of a staleness to the old mafia subgenre. Indeed. So Garry Ushaw has elected to throw in an element of the supernatural, the odd pact with forces that man was not meant to know, which should sell to the social lepers who dress in black to play Vampire in their droves. Which is not to say that Mobfire isn't a capable piece of work. Issue one presents a decent cast of characters and manages to fit a few pages of action in amidst the inevitable mass of foreshadowing as the son of a recently deceased Don sets out to destroy the powerbrokers in the old family. The art is functional and the basic plot is somewhat hackneyed but it hangs together pretty solidly.
