Industrial Gothic 1 (of 5)

Story and Art by Ted McKeever

Vertigo, $2.50

Short Review: Nice

In a way, this is an idealised Vertigo plot: Two normal people, trying to find a mystical destination in a world that considers normality abnormal. Still and all, Ted McKeever manages to work some gems of beauty into its framework, along with his frank art. The relationship between the two lovers is touching, as is the scene where the man hands down some hope as the last contact he'll have with anyone in the prison that the "ugly people" are kept in, before his escape. The escape is also well told, giving an efficient and clear picture of the other main character in this issue. You could do worse than this comic, if it manages to stay clear of obvious and blatant moralising.
