Short Review: The Fun starts here.
Now this is impressive. After nine months on the title, Paul Jenkins has managed to set his own distinctive mark on John Constantine. He seems to be a fan of continuity, so he has started by dealing with what was left behind. His first storyline dealt with, rather than ignored, Eddie Campbell's placement of John in Australia, and this, his second, has completely cleared the remaining dangling plot threads away. As has been hinted from the second issue, the Newcastle incident, which hung over much of the early Hellblazer, has now been finished. The other fixes done in this tour-de-force are too much to spoil here, but Jenkins has managed to clear the slate in such a way as to surprise most of his readers, show once and for all John's magical powers, provide a later threat to John which he or any other writer can take up at any time in the future, and, in the last, few pages, underline the basic lesson of Hellblazer, that no-one gets something for nothing. Fantastic, but now can we see some of Paul's own stories?
