Hellblazer 92

Story by Paul Jenkins

Short Review: A scary Hellblazer again, thank god.

Somewhere in Hell, a demon sits, in charge of children. Mostly innocents, such as the one John Constantine condemned to hell as a younger magician. But the First of the Fallen is gone, and hell is unstable without him. The Demon's search for the devil, and the relevance of this to Constantine's current situation is another look backwards for Paul Jenkins, another attempt to incorporate changes made by previous writers. The final page of this issue shows that Jenkins has been planning this at least one issue ahead, and is interested in keeping continuous characters between stories, or else is a damn good improviser. The use of the Devil may hark back to Garth Ennis, but the characterisation and realisation that Constantine is his own worst enemy are more reminiscent of Delano's fine run. Sean Phillips' art is great as usual. Recommended.
