Hellblazer 85

Story by Eddie Campbell
Art by Sean Phillips

Vertigo, $1.95

Short Review: Looks promising for Eddie Campbell.

Well, the first surprise here, for those who may be more familiar with Eddie Campbells' writing from, say, Hermes Vs. The Eyeball Kid, is that not only can he write proper dialogue, but he has a good ear for typical Constantine flippancy. The plot revolves around a badness in the world, as revealed to John by the ghost of the founder of the hellfire club. There's a lot of good ideas, like the ghost of the mob frenzy, but all that really happens is that John gets recruited to follow a ghost to Philadelphia. Sean Phillip's art is looking a bit uncertain at times, shifting faces.
