Short Review: An ending. A beginning. What did you expect?

As you could tell from the next issue blurb last month, this issue has the power beings succeed in turning the world upside down. California and all near states shake off the trappings of arrogant humanity, and the heroes and villains get their dearest wishes and their hash settled, respectively. In the end, Jamie Delano has fashioned a tale which misses his previous preachiness, and tells a simple story with some great characters, but it's not as mind-expanding as Vertigo would probably like us to believe. It's a caper: the good guy tries for a result, finding new friends and old friends, and an event in the past comes back to haunt a villain. It'd make a damn fine film, and it's better than a lot of what's published, but both the artist and the writer have done better.
