Ghostdancing 3

Story by JamieDelano
Art by Richard Case

There seem to be only so many things that Vertigo Mini-Series, as opposed to the wonderful Vertigo Voices one-shots, can contain within their 3,6 or 8 parts. As a rule they are (with a few exceptions, such as The Extremist, Witchcraft, and Death: The High Cost Of Living) either an study of a character's facing up to the world, and their place in it (Enigma, The Last One,Moonshadow,Shadows Fall) or sailing dangerously close to Neil Gaiman's characterisation of superhero comics as 'People running around, shouting, and hitting each other'(Goddess, both Jonah Hex miniseries', Mobfire, Sebastian O, Scarab, Vamps), with snappier dialogue than usual (Except Vamps, obviously).

Three issues in, it seems that Ghostdancing is aiming towards the latter target, though with more things designed to make the reader's think "Neat!" than usual. It's also swerving towards the environmentalist death-and-rebirth of the world cant that overwhelmed Delano's Animal Man run towards the end. Still, the dialogue's groovy, and the comic is entertaining. And Richard Case is doing the art, which is never a bad thing.
