Animal Man 73

You know, I'm just not sure whether I like Steve Pugh's art or not. It's technically excellent - the barrage of television images at the start are recognisable, the scene in Ellen's motel room is impeccably inked, but there's something wrong somewhere. Maybe it's something wrong with his mouths; most of the characters seem to be sucking lemons, although this could just be a literal depiction of one of the "features" of the plot. Or maybe it's the habit of smoothing areas whenever possible - everyone has perfect skin and if a character isn't actually frowning, they have no forehead. Or maybe it's intentional; it could be that Maxine is supposed to look nauseatingly naive, and that Ellen is supposed to leer. Still, humans aside, the art is very impressive, with Buddy's Gryphon-like body looking like a genuine nightmare. Maybe it'll grow on me.
