Short Review: Not worth it.
It seems that DC proper have decided that the Vertigo Galleries were a
tremendous success, and that they should be able to do similar with
Lobo. This misses two important points:
- Nobody thinks Lobo is quite as funny/popular as the DC editors do.
- Even with Sandnonsense popularity, a fair amount of the galleries
were just uninspired.
This last trend survives the mainstreaming undiluted, to the extent that
there are about 10 funny and 3 impressive (with, understandably, no
overlap) drawings out of 36. About half of the artists draw Lobo without
the iron cross, or with the wrong boots. And most of the twelve
pencillers who don't ink their own work are inked by the Lobo series
inker John Dell, the exceptions being Mike Parobeck inked by Rick
Burchett., Mike McKone inked by Mark McKenna and Denys Cowan inked by
Angel Gabriel (I'm not making that name up). Not really worth cover
price, unless you want like Lobo lots, or you want to find a rare
appearance by Kevin O'Neill on the western side of the Atlantic. Even
the Simon Bisley cover is well sub-par.
