Short Review: Well told, and engrossing first act of a five-part tragedy.
This issue is a perfect example of James Robinson's primary skill: storytelling. The story itself is simple, and looks like an average Batman plot: Hero is kidnapped by villain, who has been killing selected people all day, and subjected to an obstacle course to save his life. But the characterisation, and the dialogue, and the captions, are all so well written, that something in the book grabs you, and makes you interested. I want to see how the cliffhanger ends, and that's a fairly neat trick to Robinson to pull off, based on one book of history.
