Short Review: Sienkiewicz and McManus! Say no more! A confused annual, which includes an important part of the story, and a clumsy hint at future stories.
Story by Jeph Loeb & Scott Lobdell
Well, this gets the automatic points for most gratuitous lingerie shots, but I can forgive that fairly easily, due to the fact that the art for that sequence bore the unmistakable touch of Bill Sienkiewicz, and Bill back on X titles, however briefly, is a good thing. Unfortunately, he's not alone, and the collection of artists on this story confuses more than illuminates. Shawn McManus, in particular, tends to draw the characters differently from the house style, and mixing them doesn't work. The story is the much-foreshadowed adoption of Mondo into Generation X (he was named as a member in the ashcan that preceded the series), but after their rescue of him form some random badguys, misses entirely any motivation for him to stay with them. It's also an important part of the series, not a stand-alone story as we would expect.
Story by Scott Lobdell
This is fairly pointless rehash of highlights of the first issue, with some hints as to a coming secret (M has a twin). Not worth much, even with the interesting art.
