Marvel, $1.95
Short Review: Less of the good stuff.
The cover of this issue should give a few warning signs: Not only is it an attention grabbing rendition of a scene which ends the book, and skips the meat of the book, but it contains Omega Red, and Chambers. Omega Red is the token Kewl X-books villain, and his appearance in a book (traditionally on the last page) guarantees that the next issue will be only a fight scene, 'cause he's SOO tough. And Chamber, although a fairly standard loner character, is saddled with an unbelievably terrible Cockney English accent. Gambit's Creole may have a head start as worst accent in the Marvel Universe, but Chamber's is coming up fast. Apart from that, the issue is quite pleasant. Scott Lobdell has a nice handle on all the characters, and although they're mostly going round in standard X-men circles of angst and mystery, he makes it interesting to watch. Also, we see some retrofitting of Banshee into Xmen history. Unfortunately the art, although individual, still isn't as good as Bachalo, for my money. If you haven't been following this so far, I can't recommend this one, and I definitely can't recommend the next.
