Generation X 1

Aigh! I've gone blind !

Yes, It's here, the shiniest comic I'd ever wish to buy, Generation X 1. Written by Scott Lobdell, who is , along with Fabian Nicieza, the only writers in the X-camp with a brain cell each since Peter A. David's departure, and drawn by Vertigo-boy himself, Chris Bachalo, and his able sidekick Mark Buckingham, this is one title that begged to be reviewed. That, (and the horrible name, and the fact that preview pages were stored for ftp at Berkeley ) compelled me to pick it up and read it. Or get a better pair of sunglasses. Or something

Apart from the cover (And I really cannot emphasise enough how shiny it is), the art is brilliant. Bachalo always has had a penchant for drawing the beautiful people, and if ever there were a bunch prettier than the new recruits at Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, they must have been shot by a passing human. Chris's work here is mercifully free of the traits that made Death: The High Cost Of Living so uh, individual (read: no-one has a forehead taller than 4 inches, and he has stopped using ink-blotches to indicate shadow). The scripting passes easily through the task of introducing the characters and their powers, and on into (and through) the fight scene with this month's villain, dropping some great dialogue inbetweentimes. If there's only one x-comic to buy this month, you could do worse than this effort, easily the hippest of the crop.
