The Mask 9

Story by Evan Dorkin
Art by Peter Gross, Barbara Schulz & Karen Platt

Dark Horse, $2.50

Short Review: Don't give up the day job.

This is the last quarter of Evan Dorkin's stint as writer of The Mask, and it shoes none of the earlier promise of transcending the stereotypical violence that he's best known for. Which is a shame; Dorkin at his best is both vicious and intelligent. The big fight occurs, with predictable results. Everyone goes home, most in a bodybag, the good guys with more money than they started with. Next month, they take another "funny guy" (Robert Loren Fleming, of Ambush Bug fame), and hopefully they have more success than here.
