The Mask 5

Story by John Arcudi
Art by Rich Perrotta, Keith Williams & Doug Mahnke

Dark Horse,$2.50

Short Review: It ends, for a while. Recommended.

This is the last issue to be drawn by Doug Mahnke and written by John Arcudi for a while, and clear the way of all the mayhem, in order that Evan Dorkin and Peter Gross can resume a more serious tone. Or something. Whatever it's in aid of, it's a great finish, with the Mask (currently occupying Archie), Walter, Archies friends, the police, and that damn lion all converging on a graveyard not far from the Zoo. Everything's settled to some satisfaction, including one of the more constant sub-plots in Arcudi's writing finally grinding to a halt. Fun, with a great sense of irony, and some really tough bits. The pencils by Mahnke switch wonderfully from caricature to depiction and back, and add to the superb pacing. This is great stuff. Now, I wonder what Dorkin's going to do with all this?
