Grendel Tales: Homecoming 3

Story by PatMcEown
Art by Dave Cooper

It probably seemed like a good idea at the time. Matt Wagner runs out of ideas for Grendel, and decides to hang back a little, put out a few pages a month, and let a few other comics creators put up the rest. So far, then, we've had the the strange, Devil's Hammer, the impressive Devils and Deaths, and the run-of-the-mill, as exemplified by Four Devils One Hell, Devil In Our Midst, and now Homecoming.

The Bastards killed Susan's lover the last issue, so in this one, she kills them. All of them. The fight scene isn't even well done, just a series of shots of her despatching some of them, no more than one per victim. We see her leap into 50 bad guys, and six panels later, she's finishing the last few off. And a showdown with the leader which manages to be both testosterone-laden and anti-climactic. Pathetic. And the new installment of Matt's Devil Quest isn't up to much. Still, Dave Cooper's art is as watchable as always, and Biukovic and Macan, of Devils and Deaths fame, will be back next month. So, just buy that, and a copy of Dave's Pressed Tongue, is my advice.
