Grendel Tales: Devils and Deaths 1 (of 2)
Story by DarkoMacan

Wow. Now this is more like it. The story, written and drawn by
Yugoslavians, is set in that country, during a time when the descent of
the technology matches our current ascent. It's a place of fighting
clans, a time of decaying honour, and a monster has been sighted in the
villages controlled by Agram Clan. But this is not a token ethnic tale.
Certainly, the background of the creators adds a certain poignancy to
the tale of townships being ruled, in effect, by their military rulers,
but this really is an incredibly fine tale. The depth of
characterisation and emotion in these 22 pages is incredible, and the
art warmly depicts the strength of people surviving. The power and
humanity of this story overshadows even the inventiveness of Matt
Wagner's wonderful backup Devil Quest. Go buy this. Immediately.
