Second City

Story by PaulDuncan
Art by Phil Elliott

In the city, there is quiet. In the city, the people do as they are told. There is no contact between them, ever. Artificial insemination for reproduction, multiple-way televisions for social contact, robots for menial tasks. The only people who get to meet others are the hunters, the people sent to investigate deaths, and deal death themselves if need be. The only interaction is outside the city, in the slums. Everyone knows that. But then one of the hunters is invited into a conspiracy, a plan to destroy the city from the inside.

This book, combining a semi-Orwellian view of society's future with a grandeur of scale reminiscent of Matt Wagner's Grendel series, is told in gripping six page segments, rendered excellently by Phil Elliot, and portrays characterisation and social change in a brilliant manner. Simply wonderful.
